There is no such thing as a “routine” surgery.
While under anesthesia, all patients WILL have:
- Intravenous catheter with fluid therapy
- Heart rate monitor
- Pulse oximetry monitor
- Respiration monitor
- Blood pressure monitor
- Temperature monitor
We monitor our patients closely, which allows us to prevent anesthesia related incidences. As a general rule, age and illness play a very small role in our decision to anesthetize, due to the precautions that we take with each individual patient.
We also insist on full blood chemistry and CBC profiles prior to anesthesia, which allows us to make the necessary changes to treatment protocols for each individual patient.
